Rivière-Vachon

PROPOSED BIODIVERSITY RESERVE

2 532,7 km² | Designated in 2009

The Rivière-Vachon proposed biodiversity reserve (Réserve de biodiversité projetée de la Rivière-Vachon) protects one of the largest rivers in Nunavik and contains a rich biodiversity, including the range limit for alder, black spruce, and other boreal species. This territory is also within the range of the Leaf River migratory caribou herd. Note that following the 2011–2012 regional consultations on protected areas planning, this proposed biodiversity reserve did not receive support.
