TERRITORIAL RESERVE FOR PROTECTED AREA PURPOSES

The Rivière-George-Nord territorial reserve for protected area purposes (Réserve de territoire aux fins d’aire protégée de la Rivière-George-Nord) protects part of the George River watershed and part of the calving grounds of the George River caribou herd. This is an essential area for subsistence and traditional activities for the Naskapis and Inuit.

Main conservation objectives
To protect a portion of the calving grounds of the George River caribou herd and to provide connectivity to Nunavik’s network of protected areas surrounding it, such as the Rivière-George territorial reserve for protected area purposes (Réserve de territoire aux fins d’aire protégée de la Rivière-George). Also aims to protect an essential subsistence area for Inuit and the Naskapis.
