Rules for comments on our platforms: the netiquette to adopt!
To promote a positive environment and respectful dialogue on our Facebook page and on our social networks in general, courteous exchanges are called for, including:
- Use of appropriate language in all comments and responses;
- Respect for privacy (no confidential data, identifying information, or personal information);
- Moderate use of capital letters. Overuse of capital letters is equivalent to SHOUTING!
When posting comments on our platforms:
- Try to stay on topic;
- Avoid posting the same content repeatedly, otherwise it will be considered as spam and will be rejected;
- Please be respectful to other users, to our employees, and to the subjects of the articles and documents that you are commenting on. In fact, comments that are in breach of the principles of civilized digital conversation could be deleted (e.g., comments in capital letters);
- If you are commenting on court cases, remember that people are presumed innocent until proven guilty (which requires the use of the conditional tense or words like “suspect” or “accused”);
- Nunavik Protected Areas reserves the right to delete comments if they contain hyperlinks to sites whose authenticity or credibility cannot be verified;
- You must be the author of your comments. Any infringement of copyright is prohibited (including copying extracts from other sites without permission and without citing the sources). If most of your content was written or created by someone else, it will not be accepted, even if you cite your source;
- You may not post content that is likely to cause offence to any person or group of persons, or content that is likely to expose them to hatred or contempt on the basis of race, ancestry, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, or physical or mental disability;
- Your comments will be deleted if they contain any of the following:
- Vulgar, obscene, or sexually explicit remarks;
- Illegal material;
- Hate speech;
- Threats or harassment;
- Personal attacks, insults, or defamatory statements;
- Threat or inducement to commit a criminal act;
- Any denialist content;
- Any comments that incite proselytizing;
- Any content or argument based on false claims or fake news.
- Respect the privacy of others by not including any personal information (such as phone numbers or email addresses) or private conversations in your content;
- Use discretion when commenting on injuries or death, especially when children are involved;
- Your content should be personal, not commercial; avoid sharing commercial promotions.
Implementation
The communications department reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to reject or block comments that violate any of these rules. These netiquette rules are also subject to change without notice.
