Phase 1: Completed

Public

consultations

In total, nearly 700 people participated in one of the consultation activities offered across their communities (public sessions or open houses, targeted meetings with elected officials and representatives of key organizations, information sessions on the radio and school group activities), in addition to those who visited the website and Facebook page, or who received the information on local radio stations.

Between November 2022 and May 2023, all 14 Inuit communities, the Cree community of Whapmagoostui and the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach participated in consultations with the objectives to :

  • Share information about protected areas in Nunavik;
  • Engage the communities in expressing their views on the process that led to the creation of new protected areas, and on the relevance of the current network;
  • Document the level of support for the protected area planning process and its results.
